Wellbeing week at SMG...

As a core part of our People Plan, SMG kicked off the new year with its first wellbeing week of 2019. Throughout the week, we focused on many aspects of wellbeing:

  • Monday – Fitness

  • Tuesday – Mindfulness

  • Wednesday – Happiness

  • Thursday - A Healthy Soul

  • Friday – A healthy Bake Off

Fitness

With proven evidence that being active helps improve your mental wellbeing, we encouraged everyone to stay active during Wellbeing Week. We organised yoga classes across the group, helping us all to find our inner zen – namaste! In addition to this, there was a lunchtime running club and we held a week-long steps competition (find out the winner below).

Mindfulness

In this fast-paced world we can sometimes be guilty of forgetting to pay enough attention to the present moment. That’s why we set up a series of Ted Talks, helping us to remember to stop and focus on our thoughts, feelings and the world around us.

Happiness

With an aim to do an act of kindness throughout the day, we paired up with a colleague and did something that made that person happy - this ranged from giving flowers, making someone a cuppa or simply going for a chat.

A healthy soul

We dipped our toes into the world of meditation too! Helping us to 'align our chakras', we took part in a guided meditation using the Headspace App. And, breathe...

Bake-off

To finish the week off we brought in healthy bakes to be tried and tested across the offices, a welcome treat to kick start the weekend!

As part of wellbeing week, we were also given one hour back in the week to do whatever we wanted to help improve our wellbeing. Some people chose a therapeutic painting or DIY session, whilst others used this as an opportunity to walk their dog, pick up their niece and nephew from school or simply catch up on some much-needed sleep!

And finally...our steps competition winner is… Sally Vincent, HR Business Partner, who did a whopping 102,907 steps in 5 days!

Thank you to the B3 Making SMG a Great Place to Work team for organising so many awesome events and to so many of you for taking part. Here's to the next Wellbeing Week later in 2019!
